Pretend Porteños

We’d had such great weather all week so far, it was bound to rain at some point. Undeterred, we headed downtown via el Subte (the Subway) to see some of the famous touristy sites and do the proverbial “check the box” by grabbing a photo opp. Some of the highlights included the Obelisk (which is a miniature version of the Washington Monument), the House of Congress, and the famous Pink House where the Executive Branch of the government operates and where Eva Peron gave her famous speech (and where Madonna belted out “Don’t Cry for me, Argentina”). Sadly, these photos don’t do these structures justice, but you can really make out what a Buenos Aires spring thunderstorm does to the afternoon sky.

Lunch included a pit stop at Cafe Tortoni, the most famous cafe in all of BA, and a really excellent meal at the French Brasserie Pentaque in San Telmo where we watched the flea marketers avoid the rain while Bec naturally polished off another filet.
